EVENING DISCUSSIONS

Peter loves to meet with small groups for comfortable and lively discussions about the faith. Most of the people who come are not believers; in fact, Christians can't come unless they bring a friend who has questions. We begin each discussion with introductions. Each person includes some topics he or she would be interested in discussing. The group then agrees on a set of topics, and the discussion takes off from there.

LUNCH DISCUSSIONS

Peter has an on-going brown-bag lunch discussion at the University of California Santa Cruz. See Philosophy, Science, and Christianity webpage for topics and locations (left).

EDORM DISCUSSIONS

Dorm discussions can be open, as described , or they can start with a 15 minute lecture on a particular topic and include lots of question/answer time. They don't have to take place in a dorm, of course. This photo is from a lively discussion in Serbia.

INTERNATIONAL DISCUSSION NIGHTS

We also have special evening discussions for international students and their families. This is often more of a question and answer night. If you would like to join a discussion in our home in Ann Arbor, email us for a schedule.

QUIET QUESTION-ANSWER NIGHTS OR OPEN-AIR BRING-YOUR-HARD-QUESTIONS EVENTS

Sometimes called Stump the Chump.

Peter loves students and he loves questions. Bring them on!  See webpage (left) for questions students ask.

One highlight of discussions in our home is Peter's culinary delights, especially his pecan pie. On popular demand, we bring his secret recipe.

Peter Payne's Pecan Pie

Mix:
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup of dark brown sugar (Press the sugar down into the cup and fill it.)
1 t. vanilla flavoring
3 eggs
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup margarine or butter (Melt the butter on the stove or microwave.)

Mix all ingredients together. (Use a spatula to scrape the bowl.) Pour the filling into a pie crust.

Chop:
1 1/2 cups of pecan nuts

Pour pecans into pie. Press pecans down into the filling with a fork. Place pie on a tray or cookie sheet in the oven. (The tray will catch spills.) Bake at 350º for 40 to 45 minutes.

The recipe is for one pie. I usually double it for two pies. I measure the pecans separately for each pie. You can make your own pie shells, but I buy frozen, ready-to-bake 9-inch deep-dish pie crusts (also called shells). There are two crusts in each package. ---- Peter
